Mountain Turks

Mountain Turks
Mountain Turks was the disparaging term given to the Kurds in Turkey by the Turkish government during the early years of the republic in an attempt to deny the very existence of the Kurds. In recent years the term is no longer used, but official repression of Kurdish attempts to express their culture continues to occur because of fears of Kurdish separatism.
